Alasdair Morton-Teng

Alasdair Morton-Teng hails from Edinburgh. He completed an Orchestral Masters degree at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm under the tutelage of Johannes Rostamo & Aleksei Kiseliov. During his time in Stockholm he performed with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Swedish Opera, Sinfonietta Viginti and was principal of the KMH Symphony Orchestra. He was 3rd prize-winner at the North International Music Competition 2022, and was a recipient of the KMH Scholarship.

In June 2022 Alasdair joined the Resol Quartet for their tour of Catalunya. Their 2022/23 season saw them tour throughout Scotland and England in collaboration with Chamber Music Scotland and Live Music Now. They were selected as Britten Pears Young Artists 2023 and have performed in venues such as the Usher hall, the Wigmore hall, Perth concert hall and Conway hall.

Alasdair completed his undergraduate degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where he studied Cello Performance with Alison Wells, and Qin Li Wei at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore on international exchange. Alasdair was principal of the RCS Symphony Orchestra and performed in side-by-side projects with the Scottish Ensemble and the Hebrides Ensemble. His passion for chamber music led him to win first prize in the Mable Glover String Quartet Competition in 2017 & 2019.

As a soloist Alasdair has performed in masterclasses with Torleif Thedéen, Steven Isserlis, Pieter Wispelway, Claudio Bohorquez & Philip Higham. Notable engagements include performing Elgar’s Cello Concerto at the Scottish Elgar Society 2019.

For many years, Alasdair was principal cellist of the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra and a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, which has given him extensive orchestral experience. He has had the opportunity to work with esteemed conductors such as Garry Walker, Donald Runnicles, Alpesh Chauhan and Sian Edwards, as well as soloists Jack Liebeck, Evelyn Glennie and Julian Lloyd Webber among others.

Alongside classical music, Alasdair enjoys traditional Scottish music and performs with folk-contemporary ensemble Fiddlers on the Ramp, which received critical acclaim as part of the Edinburgh Fringe festival 2019.
