Joseph enjoys a varied freelance career as an orchestral and chamber musician, performing regularly across the UK and Germany. He holds a Master’s degree from the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied with Josephine Knight and was a recipient of the Zara Nelsova Scholarship. Prior to this, he completed his Bachelor’s degree at the University of the Arts Bremen, Germany, studying with Alexander Baillie and Johannes Krebs.
As an orchestral musician, he has recently performed with the Hallé Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. He is a co-founder of the chamber orchestra Kammerensemble Konsonanz, where he served as principal cellist until 2019. His chamber music experience also includes performances with the RAM Cello Ensemble and a side-by-side project with the Nash Ensemble at Wigmore Hall. He is currently collaborating with his wife, Brazilian cellist Ana Arigoni, on a series of bossa nova arrangements for two cellos, a project that celebrates and explores the musical traditions of her homeland.
In addition to performing, Joseph is a committed music educator. Since 2018, he has worked with Sistema Scotland’s community music programmes. He has taught at Play for Progress, a charity supporting unaccompanied refugee children and is an Associate Musician with Drake Music Scotland, an organisation that creates inclusive performance opportunities for disabled musicians.
