Growing up in Port of Menteith in the Trossachs, Seona was exposed to music from a young age. She became fascinated with the idea of learning the violin, and began having lessons at the age of 11 in school, where she was lucky to be taught by Jan Green and Shona Dysart.
At age 17, following two years of study with Justine Watts, Seona moved to Manchester to study at the Royal Northern College of Music. At the RNCM Seona studied violin with Steve Wilkie and graduated with a 1st class degree. Seona then returned to Scotland to complete a Master of Music degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she studied with Maya Iwabuchi, also receiving lessons from Greg Lawson and Joseph Swensen. Seona now lives in Glasgow where she enjoys a varied career comprised of performing, teaching and community music.
A keen chamber musician and orchestral player, Seona has performed as a freelancer with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and has played in side-by-side rehearsals with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Scottish Ensemble.
Seona loves playing music in a variety of styles; she has performed as a violin/piano duo with pianist Ailsa Aitkenhead in the Candlelight Concert Series “A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac”, and plays with Scottish singer-songwriter Rhona MacFarlane.
As someone whose life is enriched by playing and listening to live music, Seona feels passionately about making live music experiences more widely accessible. She has completed a placement with LIME Music for Health at Manchester Children’s Hospital, and is completing her training as a Music Practitioner with Paragon Ensemble.
Seona plays a violin made by David Rattray in 2022.
